Sometimes I forget to breathe. I’ve noticed this more as I put more work into being present. Checking your breath is usually a first step. That’s when I realize I’m not breathing.
Here are a couple of ways to breathe from Dr. Weil. I use the bellows breath to wake up in the morning (Dr. Weil likens it to a cup of coffee). I use the 4-7-8 breath (aka relaxin breath) in the morning, at night, and whenever I am FREAKING OUT.
And there’s a much simpler relaxation breathing technique, box breathing, which is used by Navy SEALs to relax…hard.
